About the COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) Antibody Blood Test

People typically start to develop signs and symptoms of COVID-19 in average 5-7 days after infection and it can take anywhere from 1–2 weeks after the first symptoms appear for antibodies to develop in the body. Since it typically takes about a week before developing symptoms after getting infected, antibodies may appear about 2-3 weeks after infection. Because of this, the COVID-19 Antibody test may not detect current infections and should not be used to diagnose active COVID-19 infections.

One of our skilled health care professionals will take a blood sample, usually by drawing blood from a vein in the arm or hand. The blood sample is then tested using to determine if antibodies against the virus are present. If test results determine that you have antibodies, it indicates that you were likely infected with COVID-19 at some time in the past and may indicate that you have some immunity, but there is a lack of evidence on whether having antibodies indicates protection against COVID-19 reinfection. This test has been authorized by FDA under EUA.

What sets COVID-19 Testing At Valley Medical Apart

At Valley Medical Laboratories, our team of highly skilled laboratory technicians take quality and accuracy very seriously, and can deliver certified, accurate test results the next day. We use the Abbot Architect Antibody Test. This test is intended for the qualitative detection of IgG antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 in human serum. “IgG” refers to immunoglobin G, and according to the FDA is the most common antibody found in blood and typically the best indicator of long-term immunity. FDA studies have indicated this test to have a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of 99.6%. We are able to keep testing in-house and provide easy access to testing for ALL – anyone wanting a test can obtain a test, regardless of work status, age, or pre-existing conditions. We can test patients of all ages! We are able to offer quick, accurate results for both the SARS-CoV-2 active virus PCR test, as well as the SARS-CoV-2 antibody test the next day!
