Valley Medical Celebrates National Physician Assistant Week

October 6 through 12 is National Physician Assistant Week. Physician assistants are medical professionals who are trained in a wide spectrum of conditions and tasks. The physician assistants at Valley Medical help our patients deal with their conditions and improve their quality of life.

There are more than 200,000 PAs in the United States, responsible for the treatment and care of patients in all specialties. PAs receive thousands of hours of medical training to help them diagnose illnesses, prescribe medications, and perform various medical tasks. This training is much like that received by physicians (MDs), just a year or two shorter and without a required residency.

A physician assistant is a licensed professional with a two- or three-year Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program. PAs must also be certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and are then able to work in collaboration with a partner physician.

Here at Valley Medical, several of our providers are physician assistants. They see new patients, conduct routine follow up appointments, and perform a variety of medical procedures. For more difficult cases, our PAs work in collaboration with Drs. George, Zaydman, and Everson to determine the best course of care.

Please join us in recognizing and celebrating the great work done by Valley Medical PAs Lindsay Bergstreser, Christina Chanthamontry, Amanda Kohl, and Mark Winkler. We value their contributions and the excellent level of care they provide for our patients. Happy Physician Assistant Week to all!
