Chronic Pain Treatment

At Valley Medical and Wellness, your treatment plan for chronic pain focuses on the cause and severity of your pain. In some cases, we'll prescribe oral or topical medications to relieve pain immediately and reduce existing inflammation that contributes to pain. In addition to medication therapies, your provider may recommend physical therapy, acupuncture, or osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) to stretch and strengthen your muscles and improve your blood circulation, as well as recommend at-home exercises and lifestyle changes to help you stay in control of your pain.

Injections and Interventional Therapy

Certain types of chronic pain can be treated with innovative injection therapies and interventional procedures, including:

  • Botox injections (for chronic migraines and cervical dystonia)
  • Bursa injections
  • Large & small joint injections
  • Occipital nerve blocks
  • Sacroiliac joint injections
  • Suprascapular nerve blocks
  • Occipital nerve blocks for headaches
  • Trigger point injections
  • Viscosupplementation Injections (for knees & shoulders)
  • Cupping/myofascial release
  • Osteopathic manipulation

Medication-Based Treatment

When chronic pain becomes severe, traditional interventional treatments may not provide enough relief. In these situations, Valley Medical provides stronger relief via medication management. We prescribe buprenorphine and other opioid-based medications that work by attaching themselves to pain receptors in the brain. These medications block pain signals and can effectively manage the persistent effects of chronic pain.

Because of the risk of addiction and other side effects, opioids must be prescribed and taken carefully. The providers at Valley Medical are trained to effectively manage opioid use to battle chronic pain and know to prescribe opioids such as buprenorphine, Sublocade®, and Suboxone® that have fewer side effects and are less addictive than other painkilling drugs.
