Valley Medical Laboratory’s vTOXⓇ is Elevating Recovery is Happening

RIH logo

Recovery Is Happening, located in Rochester, MN and serving the greater Minneapolis-St. Paul area, connects individuals impacted by substance use disorder with personalized recovery pathways. The organization offers peer-led counseling services, treatment navigation, and sober house placement as well as funding and services to support finding affordable, safe housing.

Jenna Klassen, who’s served as Executive Director of Recovery is Happening since January 2022, and worked with the company as a peer recovery specialist since 2019, sat down to talk with Valley Medical and Wellness about the benefits of peer recovery specialist work and how Valley Medical Laboratory’s viewing-free method of urine drug testing called vTOXⓇ has elevated the quality of their services.

SW: How has Valley Medical’s vTOXⓇ service benefitted Recovery is Happening?

JK: It’s been a really smooth process, transitioning to [Valley Medical’s] DNA testing. People have a lot of questions [because] it’s different than anything we’ve ever done. But, it alleviates the issue of, ‘Well, maybe that wasn’t my sample,’ right? And for us, that gives us a kind of peace of mind and an added benefit we can give to our clients.

SW: Is Valley Medical’s vTOXⓇ service one you would recommend to other treatment centers?

JK: The process online is easy to get results, and the sample collection is an easy process. Anytime our staff has questions, Valley Medical is able to provide them with the education and information they need. They’re fantastic.

Under Klassen’s direction, Recovery is Happening has expanded peer-led services and strengthened community partnerships, aiming for deeper systemic support. She is also part of broader policy efforts: she is listed among leaders in a coalition advocating for improved peer recovery infrastructure across Minnesota. Valley Medical and Wellness is proud to partner with leaders in the peer recovery field like Klassen and her team to provide hassle and viewing-free urine testing so they can focus on the vital work that is helping clients overcome substance use disorder.
